MEET THE BIRD

Hi, I'm Karen Swallow - The Word Bird

I adore the English language in all its forms, and am keen to put my passion to good use to help others. I am known amongst friends as a pedant – the one who always rolls their eyes at feral apostrophes or typos on menus; I can't help but comment on lack of clarity in any written communications, and I am always the one who colleagues turn to when they want their grammar and punctuation checked.

I am certified in editing and academic proofreading and although I recently relocated back to the North West of England, after having lived in South Australia for 20+ years, I continue to provide regular proofreading services for Australian-based clients including All Smiles Creative and FITREC's 'Raising the Bar' eMagazine. I also enjoyed the opportunity to proofread the Gordon Rugby Club's 2021 Annual Report.

In Australia, I worked at a University for over 12 years. There, I learned resilience, creativity and an ability to juggle competing priorities and meet tight deadlines. During that time, I also had the opportunity to proofread reports and documents, gaining a reputation for a keen eye with relentless attention to detail.

I love reading and appreciate that even the best writers can make the occasional mistake. So whatever your project is, and wherever you may be located, let me be your fresh pair of eyes to ensure your finished product is error-free and publishing-ready!

Karen is an exceptionally talented proofreader. Like a duck to water, she 'red pens' documents with passion, precision and laser-like accuracy. I cannot recommend her more highly.

Analee Gale, All Smiles Creative
